Wine estate: Chateau la Verrerie
Between the Rhône and Provence, the treasure of the Descours family, the Château La Verrerie, jewel of the Luberon wines

The estate covers 48 hectares and produces 240,000 to 250,000 bottles per year.
The Descours family celebrates the 30th anniversary of its Lubéron wine. It was the 1985 vintage that was the first product, four years after the acquisition of the estate by Jean-Louis Descours who was originally looking for a holiday residence. It was not until 1988 that the appellation cote-du-lubéron was created, of which La Verrerie is one of the jewels. Stuck between the coasts of the Rhone and the coast of Provence, this young appellation suffers from a lack of notoriety compared to its neighbors.

The third generation Descours, represented by Christopher, the grandson of Jean-Louis, spared no effort to obtain a quality that would allow the wines of La Verrerie to shine. Helped by Olivier Adnot, a champion who fell in love with Provence where he had gone down to get married, the head of the EPI group (Weston, Bonpoint, Alain Figaret, Piper and Charles Heidsieck ...) invested a lot to develop the Château La Verrerie.

Owing to its past, Olivier Adnot has imposed his style: "This Champagne inspiration mixed with a Southern tradition, gives an astonishing blend of freshness, finesse and presence to our wines" affirms the oenologist of the castle.

The estate covers 48 hectares and produces 240,000 to 250,000 bottles per year, including 160,000 in red, 70,000 in rosé and 20,000 in white. All grape varieties and plots are vinified separately. At the end of a year of raising oak casks for red wines, the general manager selects those who are worthy of the prestigious Grand Deffand cuvée composed of 100% syrah, bottled after fifteen months. Produces only the best years, this high-end wine that Olivier Adnot qualifies as "petit côte-rotie" is offered to private individuals at the price of 29 euros. A relatively high level but up to its quality. The 2003 and 2009 vintages were among the best Syrahs in the world! The quantity is very limited since the vintage 2012 gave only 7,000 bottles.
Excellency. The other wines of Château La Verrerie which also offer a good quality are much more affordable. The red (70,000 bottles), half made up of Grenache and Syrah, is offered at 14 euros TTC. White at 12 euros and rosé (65% Grenache, 35% cinsault) at 9 euros. To increase the quality of Château Rouge, the property has created a second wine, the Esprit Bastide (70,000 bottles) sold for 9.50 euros. Since the vintage 2013, the wines are produced in organic farming. "As we are aiming for excellence," says Olivier Adnot, the 2014 vintage in red, where quality was not at the top, will only give Esprit Bastide wines, no Château. "

The wines of La Verrerie are mainly sold in France (90% of the production of which 40% to the private individuals via the wine merchants) because, in export, they suffer from their positioning price very upscale while the appellation is in competition with wines with more prestigious notaries like châteauneuf-du-pape.
